The Cabela Family Foundation (CFF) story ultimately began when Dick and Mary Cabela founded a tiny company selling hand-tied trout flies. While Dick and Mary are best known for founding Cabela’s, those closest to them understand it was their love of God, family, and the outdoors that truly defined their lives. The memories created in pursuit of these ideals fueled a lifelong commitment to conservation.
CFF has partnered with some of the world’s leading experts to provide on-the-ground, sustainable, high-impact initiatives such as 24 Lions, 12 Cheetahs, various North American wild-sheep programs, and many other notable conservation projects around the world. Coupled with that, they’ve partnered with some of the very best brands of outdoor gear in the industry, like Kenetrek, whose products Dan Cabela has used and trusted for more than 20 years. These invaluable partnerships help ensure our cherished wildlife and wild places have an optimistic future. Attaching themselves to companies like Kenetrek, who truly care about conservation and the future of our way of life is paramount to the Cabela family.
The Foundation has also promoted conservation, specifically the role hunting plays in sustaining wild creatures and preserving habitat around the world. A few years ago, the Foundation embarked on a quest to share the facts of this message with as many people as possible, most importantly to the multitude of non-hunters who may have never been exposed to it. The main venue for exploring these sometimes uncomfortable ideas is through their show, “Hard Truths of Conservation” in which viewers follow Dan Cabela as he treks the globe asking the difficult questions, listening to the answers, and laying out the facts. After debuting on the History Channel, the highly entertaining and visually stunning series is now featured on Discovery and Animal Planet around the world. It’s a testament to the power of conservation’s honest message being presented in a compelling format.
The Cabela Family Foundation mission is to create and build partnerships and projects that promote outdoor recreation, conservation and charity toward others. By most accounts, they are fulfilling that mission, as they strive to continue the great work of the hunter-conservationists who came before them.
